The Health Program was inaugurated on 1st December 2000, on the occasion of International AIDS Day. Pasua area is heavily affected by HIV/AIDS,
hence the need for a community education program to help the residents discuss the issues they face daily in taking care of their friends,
relatives and neighbours.
Mkombozi VTCDC has taken up the task of educating the public through seminars, workshops, home-based care and outreach programs intended to end
the stigma attached to the infected and to open up channels between residents so that they pool their resources to help those in need.
As many as 25 to 50 people gather to take part in the weekly session of the Mkombozi Health Program. A nurse from Child and Mother Hospital (Moshi)
carries out the meetings, sometimes with the collaboration of a guest speaker from a clinic or a government hospital, a peer educator or a
counselor.
