FUNDING
Mkombozi Vocational Training and Community Development Centre relies on the following sources of funds for its sustainability:
- School fees (for the vocational education programmes)
Those families who can afford to pay at least part of the school fees greatly support the centre by their contributions. Some students are granted a loan without interest and pay their due in installments once they start making a living. - Sales of goods and services produced at the centre
Mkombozi VTCDC is not only renowned in Moshi for its quality catering services managed by the hotelier students, but also for its original batiks, its colourful garments, school uniforms and many other products designed by the tailoring group. Within the coming 5 years, visitors will be pleased to stay at Mkombozi hostel and restaurant. It is planned that this project should generate enough income to make the centre an enterprise largely independent from donations. - Farming
Most of the food consumed by students and staff is coming from the nearby farm, which produces rice and maize. Rice sales also support Mkombozi. Farming activities shall be expanded in the future to include vegetables and beans. - Local donors
Local companies and organizations generously donate working tools, building material, medicine and services essential to the school. - International donors
After evaluating the project, funding institutions such as FOT and CART have granted Mkombozi donations. Both trusts were very satisfied with the outcomes of the collaboration and have become close partners of the centre.
Last year, international donors contributions made up only 30% of the total resources of the centre. We are aiming at decreasing the part of
overall donations (local and international) from 42% to 20% within a period of 5 years.
